Kernels from hulls

چکیده

The kernel of a polygon has long been an object of study in computational geometry, especially in the context of art gallery theorems. In this paper, we present two new algorithms for computing the kernel of a plane curve. We show that the computation of the kernel of a plane curve can be reduced to the computation of the convex hull of a plane curve, revealing the computational and structural similarity of these two fundamental geometric objects. The kernel of a curve is studied in dual space, by applying the geometric duality between lines and points to the curve’s tangent space. The kernel in primal space becomes the convex hull in dual space.

Lesser Grain Borers, Rhyzopertha dominica, Select Rough Rice Kernels with Cracked Hulls for Reproduction

Tests were conducted to determine whether the lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Coleoptera: Bostrychidae), selects rough rice (Oryza sativa L. (Poales: Poaceae)) kernels with cracked hulls for reproduction when these kernels are mixed with intact kernels. Differing amounts of kernels with cracked hulls (0, 5, 10, and 20%) of the varieties Francis and Wells were mixed with intact ke...

Aflatoxin variability in pistachios.

Pistachio fruit components, including hulls (mesocarps and epicarps), seed coats (testas), and kernels (seeds), all contribute to variable aflatoxin content in pistachios. Fresh pistachio kernels were individually inoculated with Aspergillus flavus and incubated 7 or 10 days. Hulled, shelled kernels were either left intact or wounded prior to inoculation. Wounded kernels, with or without the se...

Evaluating Modern Techniques for the Extraction and Characterisation of Sunflower (Hellianthus annus L.) Seeds Phenolics

Recently there is a great interest in using high energy techniques (HET) which involve microwave or ultrasound-assisted extraction (MAE and UAE) for isolation of natural bioactive compounds from plant foods. Such bioactive compounds are phenolics which were determined from sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) kernels and hulls (defatted) utilising two different high energy extraction techniques, ul...

Feature Space Interpretation of SVMs with non Positive Definite Kernels

The widespread habit of “plugging” arbitrary symmetric functions as kernels in support vector machines (SVMs) often yields good empirical classification results. However, in case of non conditionally positive definite (non-cpd) functions they are hard to interpret due to missing geometrical and theoretical understanding. In this paper we provide a step towards comprehension of SVM classifiers i...

Improving Colorant Absorption from Pistachio Hulls on Wool Fiber Using Protease Enzyme

Nowadays, textile processing based on biotechnology has gained its importance in the view of stringent environmental and industrial safety conditions. The use of protease enzymes in protein fibers to improve some physical and mechanical properties is particularly interesting. In this research, wool yarns were first treated with different concentrations of protease enzymes in aqueous solution in...

Effect of rumen bacteria from sheep adapted to a tanninferous diet on in vitro fermentation parameters of pistachio hulls using bovine inoculum

Sheep adapted to consume tannins rich feeds such as oak leaf (OL) appear to develop defensive mechanisms by their ruminal bacteria against these polyphenols. The capabilities of ruminal isolated tannins resistant bacteria from these animals to ferment a tanniniferous feed (i.e., pistachio hulls, (PH) which were incubated with rumen fluid from Holstein dairy cows was assessed. Six g positive coc...
